Pausing or Stopping SightLane

There may be a time when you want to stop a monitor from running or temporarily pause a portion of the SightLane platform from executing altogether (however, this is not recommended).  This article describes two ways to "switch off" SightLane elements when necessary.

Turning off Event Monitors

Turning off an individual monitor is easily accomplished by updating the monitor's settings.  While most monitors capture Event data every time a process is executed, some users wish to leverage monitors only under certain conditions.  To manage a monitor's executions, go to any Monitor record and click the "Settings" tab.  Then edit the "Frequency" field.

The Frequency field determines when a particular monitor will execute and record Event logs to SightLane.  Its default value is "Always" but this setting can be changed by the monitor designer.

  • Always - This monitor will always record new Events and the associated log content.
  • Logs Only - This monitor will only record new Events if they generate log content.  Depending on your logging strategy (e.g. if you only add log statements when something goes wrong), some executions of a monitored process may generate no Event log content.
  • Exceptions Only - This monitor will only record new Events if the monitor has a Failure status OR if it completes but its "Needs Review" flag is set to true.
  • Disabled - This monitor will never run or record new Events or logs.  This is essentially the "Off" switch.

A disabled job can be identified by the disabled icon displayed on its monitor tile, on the Control Center tab of the SightLane application, or by reviewing its Frequency setting.

Turning off Platform Elements

If you want to pause the execution of SightLane or its components at a higher level, go to Setup -> Custom Metadata and select the "Manage" link next to "SightLane Settings."

Click "Edit" next to your SightLane Settings record and find the Switch elements that control how SightLane executes across all monitors and scheduled processes.

  • Master Switch - Determines whether SightLane is recording Event Logs.  When unchecked, SightLane will stop all monitoring and Event Log recording, for all monitors.  Visibility into monitored processes will be removed going forward.  However, your existing Event logs will remain intact and available in your Salesforce implementation.
  • Master Cleaner Switch - Determines whether the 'Cleaner' portion of the Intelligent Archive scheduled job will execute. When unchecked, no Event records will be deleted and no Archives will be created. WARNING: This can lead to excessive data build-up if left unchecked for too long.
  • Master Archival Switch - Determines whether the 'Archival' portion of the Intelligent Archive will execute. If this is switched off, SightLane Event records will continue to be deleted but no Archive records will be created, regardless of individual Monitor Settings.

Though they are not used as often, these techniques do provide the ability to easily pause or turn off the SightLane platform, without any changes to existing Flow or code monitor implementations.
