Add Assignment Types

Introduction

WatchMe recordings are almost always attached to related records so it is as easy as possible for Users and admins to find the video and log content they need, from wherever they are living in Salesforce (in our example, a Case record).

Assignments allow platform administrators to specify what types of objects can be connected to WatchMe recordings.  This keeps users from attaching content to random objects (which makes it a bit harder to find).  There is no limit to the Assignments you can configure, but let's start with Cases.

Assignment Types

WatchMe includes two different assignment-related Custom Metadata types:  Assignment Types and Assignment Fields.  For the sake of this setup article, we will only cover Assignment Types.  For more information on these items, please check out the complete tutorial on Managing Assignments.  For now, click Manage Records and then click the New button.

To set up the Case object, simply enter "Case" in the first four boxes.  It's a little repetitive in this simple example, but it supports any naming standards your organization may have and will become more valuable as you get more sophisticated with WatchMe.

  • Label - The label of the Custom Metadata record.
  • Name - The name of the Custom Metadata record.
  • Object Name - The API name of the object to which you are connecting WatchMe records.  Don't forget to include the namespace if it is a managed package object.
  • Object Label - How the object will be referred to within the WatchMe User Experience.
  • External Type - Indicates that the Assignment Type is not a Salesforce object.  This is helpful when you are connecting WatchMe to other platforms like ServiceNow.
  • Active - Indicates whether or not this object is currently available to WatchMe processes (i.e., whether a WatchMe can be assigned to this type of object.
  • Primary Search Field - The API name of the object field that will be used to search for assignment records (more on this in the Managing Assignments article).
  • Secondary Search Field - The API name of another object field that will be used to search for assignment records (more on this in the Managing Assignments article).

Once you have made your entries, click Save, and you will be done.  Feel free to create other assignment types that you need.  The third setup step is complete.  One more and you will be done.  Let's go!
